CAEL Test – Integrated Reading Practice

What’s on the Reading Test?

For this part of the test, you will read passages on academic topics or situations and reply to questions.

  • Short Reading

There will be one or two short reading passages with comprehension questions.

Each short passage will be followed by 3 questions.

  • Long Reading

This will be followed by one or two long reading passages.

There are usually 11 comprehension questions on each on the long passages.

  • Total Questions & Time Limit

There will be 14 to 25 questions in total on this part of the reading test.

The integrated reading part of the exam can last between 35 and 50 minutes.

  • Speaking Task

At the end of the reading section, you will have to respond verbally to a comprehension question based on one of the long passages.

  • Question Types

Unlike other English language tests, the CAEL Reading Test does not only contain multiple choice questions.

For the CAEL, you may also need to write your answers in the gaps provided or complete charts based on the information given in the reading texts.
